A primitive and extinct human species stronger but less sophisticated to Homo Sapiens which was found (by the recent sequencing of the Neanderthal genome) to be 99.7% similar to modern humans. This indicates that we too, are 99.7% Neanderthals and only 0.3% different. I like to believe that we are a combination of 99,7% Neanderthal emotion and 0,3% Homo Sapiens intellect which may not sound like much, but is certainly enough to make us converse with each other like no other animal on Earth. It is also  a fantastic explanation of why intellect has such little effect on emotion.

We really like to believe that our choices - being the most intelligent animal on Earth - are formed by intellectual processes when reality proves time and again that correct choices in life are only made when intellect respects emotion. At the moment, Neanderthal - the book-  is a free association blog. Here, I enter anything that comes to mind, gets me hard and possibly interests others, too. A few years ago, when I realised that I needed to get serious with my video work on the TWP website, I put together a stereoscopic 3D setup based on two SONY 4K cameras that could be synchronised frame by frame and started capturing all videos in stereoscopic 3D. The difference between stereoscopic 3D video (shot with two cameras - one for each eye) and monoscopic video (shot with one camera) is that the stereoscopic material is able to capture the volume and the shape of the subject in addition to the spacial relationships between the subject and the physical space around it almost like these are experienced in natural three-dimensional vision, unlike in the common monoscopic video that only captures a totally flat image without any real spacial information.

My goal since I started The Warm Project was to explore the male nude and be able to reproduce the physical experience of being in the studio again and again, as closely as it could possibly be. To achieve that, I decided to explore two different methods. Printed photographic elevations, a little like pop-up books where printed cut-outs pop out of the page (this is the method I use in my framed artwork) and stereoscopic 3D videos.

Every real stereoscopic 3D video contains two channels of information, two different video feeds each of which correspond to a different eye. There's one video feed for the left eye and another for the right and the two videos are shot with two separate yet synchronised cameras. To experience stereo 3D as a viewer, those two video feeds get projected with the use of several projection systems that preserve the separation between the left and the right eye. The viewmaster, the red and cyan glasses, the circular polarised glasses that are used in 3D cinemas, the VR headsets like the Meta Quest VR headsets or the Apple Vision Pro are all systems used to project a different image to each eye in order to preserve the separation between left and right feed. They are all stereoscopes. Technically complicated, with tons of features besides the ability to deliver stereoscopic 3D material, yet true stereoscopes like the humble viewmaster.

However one can view stereo 3D material using a simple technique that requires no special equipment other than an image (or video) prepared in a special way and a set of eyes.

I am explaining everything further down in detail.

To view this Freeview image in 3D (or the free view video in the link below), follow these steps:

1. Display the image (or the free view video) full screen.
2. Stand away from the screen roughly as much as the (horizontal) size of your screen. For example if your screen is 30cm horizontally, stand about 30cm away from your screen.
3. Make sure you are viewing the screen horizontally and not tilted to the one side. This is important if you want to avoid double images later on.
4. Focus on the centre of the image (in Giannis' image focus on the purple cross).
5. Keep looking at the centre of the image and slowly squint your eyes in order to focus on your nose. The two separate images of Giannis at the background will slowly move to the centre of your vision and eventually merge into one stereoscopic 3D image. It will be out of focus at the start, but it will slowly clear out.

This method which is certainly NOT the right way to deliver stereo 3D material, is a quick and dirty way to easily check a stereogram without the use of special equipment. However the real breakthrough for The Warm Project would be the ability to offer VR subscriptions that would optionally include a VR headset.

And then, I would really spend the evening naked with my VR on because life then, would be far too small to care ;)

Their motive was clearly homophobic which was to the courts' honour constantly acknowledged.

A few weeks ago I sadly discovered that William Futral, the owner and director of theguysite.com was murdered by one of his performers. I never knew William, however I understand that - as I did back in 2010 - William must have trusted the wrong person and got terribly unlucky about it. Richard Lam, his murderer might now face the death penalty in Florida, however William is not coming back. William's website has been down ever since.

The lesson to be learned is to always stay safe, no matter the situation. I now photograph in a studio under CCTV coverage and always have a pendant on me that can trigger an alarm which in turn calls the police. Crap can happen anytime, the point is to minimise the risk in order to stay as safe as it possibly is.
